We are using this post to provide prospects and customers a means to view plants they may wish to consider based on location throughout their property's landscape.

There may be other options. These are plant only considerations I have collected over time. 

This post is not meant for anyone other than the intended viewers, but you may find it interesting or beneficial.

• Some of these plants may also be suited for partial sun to shade.
• Plants listed should do well in our hardiness zone in the Midlands.
• Obviously, these are only a portion of the plants available, but I will be posting more over time.
• ALSO, many of these plants are available in species and cultivars which may vary in branch structure, form and mature dimensions.

IMPORTANT: I can only provide certain images of these plants. To best see them in different aspects and applications, please use the common name, such as "Bloodgood Japanese Maple", or better yet, the botanical name, "Acer palmatum var. atropurpureum 'Bloodgood'", in your favorite search engine, but please remember to identify the images you view as many may display as a similar, but different plant.

MOST IMPORTANT: I can only afford to list a certain genus of plant, but not all the species within the genus. These are ideas to help you plan, but please contact me with any specific concerns.

Blooms: Inconspicuous; prized for foliage.

Foliage: Dark Red in Spring and Summer to Scarlet in Fall

Shamrock Inkberry - Ilex Glabra 'Shamrock'

Evergreen

Blooms: None, Prized for Foliage

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 5'   Mature Spread: 5'

Emperor I® Japanese Maple - Acer palmatum 'Wolff'

Deciduous

Blooms: Inconspicuous; prized for foliage.

Foliage: Dark Red in Spring and Summer to Scarlet in Fall

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 15'   Mature Spread: 15'

Lemon Ball - Sedum rupestre 'Lemon Ball'

Perennial Succulent

Blooms: Yellow and star shaped, Spring and Summer, but insignificant as they blend in with the leaves.

Sunlight: Best in Full Sun, not as dramatic in Part Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Tolerates poor and dry conditions once established.

Mature Height: 4 to 6" Mature Spread: 10 to 12"

Note: Will trail/cascade/spill if elevated and/or exceeds designated surroundings. Can be allowed to do so or pruned/trimmed.

Fragrant (Tea) Olive - Osmanthus fragrans

Evergreen

Blooms: Spring and Fall.

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 10 to 12'   Mature Spread: 6 to 8'

Invincibelle Wee White® Smooth hydrangea

Deciduous

Blooms: White, Summer through Fall, Deadheading Not Necessary

Sunlight: Partial to Full

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3 to 5' Mature Spread: 3 to 5'

Note: This hydrangea was just cultivated in 2017 and loves sun, but we need to keep it well watered, as with the others, in the sunnier and hotter months.

Sweet Viburnum - Viburnum Odoratissimum 

Evergreen

Blooms:  Spring - Flowers, Summer Berries

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Chindo Sweet Viburnum - Viburnum awabuki 'Chindo'

Evergreen

Blooms:  Late Spring - Flowers, Fall/Winter - Berries

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 10 to 12'   Mature Spread: 6 to 8'

Cherry Dazzle® Dwarf Crape Myrtle

Deciduous

Blooms: Red, Showy in Summer

Sunlight: Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3 to 5'   Mature Spread: 3 to 5'

Yellow Lady Banks Climbing Rose - Rosa banksiae 'Lutea'

Deciduous, Evergreen Foliage

Blooms: Yellow, Late Spring to Summer

Sunlight: Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist soil. Water weekly or more often.

Mature Height: 15 to 20'   Mature Spread: 15 to 20'

Note: Fast-grower which can be easily controlled with annual pruning or when need be.

Sunshine Daydream Abelia - Abelia x grandiflora 'Abelops'

Evergreen

Blooms: Fragrant white blooms open in summer and develop a rosy tone as they mature.

Foliage: Tricolor emerges dark pink with green and white variegation, and softens to dreamy pink, golden yellow and green hues as the season progresses.

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3 to 4' Mature Spread: 3 to 4'

Blue Pacific Shore Juniper - Juniperus conferta 'Blue Pacific'

Evergreen

Blooms: Inconspicuous; prized for foliage color.

Sunlight: Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: Roughly 1'   Mature Spread: 6 to 7'

Blue Fescue - Festuca glauca

Perennial, Evergreen in Warmer Climates

Blooms: Spring and Summer. Foliage retains blue color in warm winter areas.

Perennial, Evergreen in Warmer Climates

Encore Azalea Autumn Bonfire - Rhododendron ‘Robleza’ PPIP

Evergreen

Sunlight: Light Shade to Full Sun. Allow 4 to 6 hours direct sun for best blooms. 

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3' Mature Spread: 3.5'


 Sago Palm

Evergreen (in mild climates)

Sunlight: Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Less water needed once established.

pH: Acidic, 5.0 to 6.5

Very slowly reaches 10 ft. tall, 8 ft. wide, with 3 to 6 ft. long fronds after many, many years.

Limelight Hydrangea - Hydrangea paniculata 'Limelight'

Deciduous Perennial

Blooms: Late Summer, Early Fall, Mid Fall, Late Fall

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Purple Pixie® Dwarf Weeping Loropetalum -

Evergreen

Blooms: Pink Fringes - Heaviest in Spring; Repeating Throughout the Year.

Kaleidoscope Abelia - Abelia x grandiflora 'Kaleidoscope'

Evergreen

Foliage: Bright, Golden Yellow Variegation on Medium Green leaves along with Brilliant Red Stems

Blooms: Fragrant White Flowers - Spring through Autumn
