Two Pine Tree Bed

Soil Amendment: Mushroom compost to be used in planting holes


Mulch: Pine Straw


Border: Establish natural border between mulch and lawn. Bed borders to mostly follow existing borders, yet re-established for better delineation and mulch retention.

Point-of-view is looking toward the two pine trees from approximately where the driveway meets the carport.

The following plants will basically form an elongated circle, reaching outward from the base of the two pines, surrounding the first feature plant, the Japanese Yew.



(1) Duke Gardens Japanese Plum Yew
 - 
Cephalotaxus harringtonia 'Duke Gardens' 
Center of plant bed surrounded by the following plants

Evergreen

Blooms: Non-flowering, prized for foliage

Foliage: Green with yellow tint during new growth

Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 4 to 6'  Mature Spread: 4 to 6'

Crimson Fire LoropetalumLoropetalum chinense 'Crimson Fire'
One each, between the three Cryptomeria Globosa Nana

Evergreen

Blooms: Pink Fringes - Heaviest in Spring; Repeating in Fall

Sunlight: Partial to Full Sun

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3 to 4'   Mature Spread: 3 to 4'

(3) Cryptomeria Globosa NanaCryptomeria japonica 'Globosa Nana'
Surrounding the Japanese Yew with the Crimson Fire Loropetalums in between

Evergreen

Blooms: None, prized for foliage

Foliage: Light green to yellow-green

Sunlight: Full Sun to Partial Shade

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 2 to 4'   Mature Spread: 3 to 5'

(1) Flip Side Chaste Tree - Vitex x 'Bailtexone'
Most forward part of bed at opposite end of pine trees

Deciduous

Blooms: Blue-purple to Dark Purple

Foliage: Gray-green upper-side; dusky purple underside

Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 6 to 8'   Mature Spread: 6 to 8'









Optional (1) 
Nanho Blue Butterfly Bush - Buddleja davidii var. nanhoensis ‘'Mongo’

Note: Divide existing butterfly bush to provide plant.

Between two pine trees (tree roots allowing) trained to a black metal trellis.

Evergreen

Blooms: Mauve-blue flowers from June to frost

Foliage: Glossy green

Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade

Water/Soil: Moist, not soggy/well-drained. Water weekly or more often in extreme heat.

Mature Height: 3 to 5'   Mature Spread: 3 to 5'
