Family members and life-long loves are like trees. They will always be there until their death or yours. You can appreciate and care for them and hopefully have a long and happy life together.
True friends are like woody shrubs. They are strong, enduring and you rarely want to move them or lose them.
Good friends are like perennials. You know when they will show up and will usually come back later.
That acquaintance you truly enjoy is like an annual. Showy, not around for long, and you make the decision as to whether you want them back. You may choose another next time.
Weeds, oh well.
