Moose Tennis New Year's Day 2020 and More!

Wow! Today we filled three courts with some of the best play (ahem) in world-wide tennis, while also having a surplus of players.

The weather was cool and we had plenty of sunshine; yet, depending on which side of the court one happened to be defending, the sun was not in one's favor. The wind was also tricky and was my excuse for having more double faults than I did in the entire year of 2019.

I have other excuses for some less-than-Doug-level play. None of which matters to anyone, particularly my partners. Yet, I did reach deep in my shorts and pulled a feel wins out of my...well, you know.

Today was phenomenal, and again, as I always was on court or managing match-ups, I didn't quite get the feel of all the play and court interactions. But, I did get the sense of a few things, other than the fact my play was not indicative of the Moose season to come - I hope not.

David, Carolyn's grandson, was a joy to have out, recognizing his youth and verve, while also trying to take advantage of it via our maturity of play...whatever. Just kidding, David. "You got some good stuff going on. Glad you came out to moose around with us - always welcome." Keep playing - it's the sport for a lifetime. Learn from Grandma - she's got it going on, as well.

Ami, I am told or overheard, but never truly experienced, had something going on. No, I actually played with her once and she did have it going on. It's that damn hat - it helps her retain that tennis knowledge and blocks out whatever advice Roger may offer. She injured no one today, but only because Vera blocked a face shot with her racket.

Ami also did this "I'm not being nutmegged." between-the-legs shot" near the net only to win that point with a drop shot. It was akin to LeAnn's severe-angled-net-shot-walk-away-put-away. Say that, three times fast, in Latin.

Tim came out, regrettably in Green Bay Packers attire, but that's okay. Tim is from the original herd, across the river. I believe he had a good time blending with the new herd.

Vera, who is truly good with her shot-placement, has improved her serve toss. Thank, me. However, I don't know if she planned or didn't plan to do so, but she was the first to leave the get-together at Carol's while also parking at the head of the driveway, in front of everyone else, causing a mass exodus of Moose revelers. She's forgiven. Vera also won the You Won't Miss Me on Court attire award.

It was great to have Jason out again and hopefully we'll see more of him and Lee.

Not everyone could make it out to Carol's soiree, but she was (is) a wonderful host, and hubby, Todd, for providing a fantastic variety of food and beverage for the herd - not to mention the fabulous view and the fire. Killer job with the fruit mixer. This is why she is Carol (of Carol fame).

Someone, I believe that women wearing that damn hat, mentioned some event we may plan for February, but we haven't decided yet between the names, Moomosa or Mimoosa. Take a stab at what this will be based around. We'll put our antlers together and come up with a name.

Thank you, Caroline, for being the photog. I know it was painful. Come join the herd.

Oh, and you too, Todd. We hope you get court-ready and can come out this season.

By the way, and this is IMPORTANT! (unlike anything else I've written): Moose Tennis will begin at 9:30a.m., this Saturday.

Hopefully Ed will be back (with some of those mysterious net shots), as well as some others who have strayed off.

See ya in just a few hours.
