She was just putting out new lighter yellowish leaves and she is somewhat symmetrical for an untrained japanese maple, so I decided to do something new.
I used a pruning technique I call jagged cut, trying to highlight some of the color variation and the great layers she has.
Below is Crazy Girl roughly two years later.
I didn't catch her with so many new leaves and it may not be so obvious, but I had to give her a good pruning as she wants to grow outward from previous prunings.
She may be a little older, but she's still got it goin' on.
I just met a few new japanese maples, taller species, on two different properties last week and I can't wait to discover what they want to do and can be.
