I didn't plant this crepe myrtle so close to this home, nor did I make the cuts to the two lower major stems, but I have worked with this girl for over three years.
I placed the bird on the left stem and hung the tuned wind chimes, but I had nothing to do with the angel bird nest which is actually consumed by the wood and is going nowhere unless it is to be destroyed. That's not gonna happen.
I did recently redo the bed after all the ivy was completely burnt by sun light after the felling of a neighbors tree, for which all agreed. Encore azaleas and pink muhle grass were planted and some suffering hostas were transplanted. We'll give it some time to mature.
The skin (bark) of this crepe myrtle is beautiful and she has plenty of leg to show off.
Someone else topped (pollarded) her out at about twelve feet, but I have spent some time over the past few years cutting back some of the adventitious stems below the canopy and keeping the canopy above the roof.
The more the crown grows the less time I spend cleaning below the canopy.
She shades about a third of the St. Augustine lawn below, which is thick and plush, for about half of the day during summer.
She also has plenty of feathered visitors.
